The Hidden Garden: A Fusion of Nature and Modern Design

Che-Yung Chuang's Award-Winning Interior Design Inspired by "The Peach Colony"

In a world where modern design often feels detached from nature, Che-Yung Chuang's "The Hidden Garden" stands as a testament to the beauty that emerges when the two are seamlessly integrated. Drawing inspiration from the idyllic scene described in "The Peach Colony," Chuang has created a tranquil and sophisticated space that infuses naturalistic elements into a modern setting.

The Hidden Garden, an interior design project spanning 778 square meters, was completed in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan in February 2017. The design's unique properties lie in its use of dark and gray tiles as the main feature of the counter area, creating a quiet and delicate space filled with geometric patterns that offer a sense of gradation. The visual impact is further enhanced by a large rectangular light box that appears above the counter desk, accompanied by the outlines of trees and leaves.

The design's realization technology takes inspiration from Peng Hu Basalt, a natural rock formation. This influence is evident in the overlapping wall design which, when illuminated, gives the impression of walking in a mountain range. This innovative use of light and shadow adds depth and intrigue to the space, further emphasizing the theme of nature.

The interaction within the space is also noteworthy. The audiovisual area features a dividing line on the wall that forms a geometric shape, while a forest-shaped carving on the television wall echoes the design theme. The minimalist decoration of the ceiling and field creates a stable and introverted space, allowing the unique features of the design to shine.

Despite the challenges posed by the ambitious design, Chuang managed to create a generous dining space adorned with a large chandelier that mimics stars in the sky. The cooking classroom, infused with savor, features black steel elements that echo the Nakajima kitchenware and rectangular oven, forming simple geometric shapes that create a bright and high-quality space.

The Hidden Garden's unique blend of naturalistic elements and modern design earned it the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is a testament to Che-Yung Chuang's remarkable creativity, technical prowess, and artistic skill. His design not only showcases a high level of excellence but also evokes positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
